New Beginnings

2023
6″ x 8″ image on 11″x14″ paper
mokuhanga woodcut with oil
edition of 28

High heeled designer shoes are powerful symbols. When I got my first paycheck after changing my life I bought a pair of designer shoes. The extravagance symbolized the freedom to make my own choices.
This print is made with a combination of Japanese and western printing methods. The color layers are applied mokuhanga style with matte watercolor ink brushed onto the blocks. The final layer is oil based transparent white ink to create a glossy reflection.
